Some dental issues are obvious, such as a broken tooth or large cavity. They may be noticeable and even painful. Others are not as obvious, such as a small chip or a rough spot. You may not be able to see these issues, and most flaws of this type are felt by moving the tongue across the location of the flaw.

If you have such a flaw on one or more of your teeth, you may want to talk to your dentist about a simple cosmetic dental procedure known as enamel shaping. Enamel shaping involves removing a very small part of the surface or enamel of the tooth to make it smoother. The procedure is painless, fast and easy for your dentist to complete during a regular exam or visit.

If you notice a small spot on your tooth but aren’t sure if it is something to be concerned about or not, talk to your dentist. Your dentist will be able to tell if it is a serious issue or one that can be taken care of with something as simple as enamel shaping
