The Grand Rapids Art Museum was about to end their 9 year run of having a lighted Christmas tree. They said they were simply unable to afford the tree. Luckily, donors were able to raise enough money to save the tree and the event. An estimated $50,000 is needed to fun the lighting of the tree. John Inhulsen and Charlie Secchia mounted a “Save the Christmas tree” campaign to raise the money.
“Charlie Secchia and I got together (Tuesday) morning and said we’re not okay with there not being a tree at Rosa Parks Circle,” said Inhulsen, a downtown attorney and chairman of the Kent County Republican Party. “Grand Rapids should have a tree right there. It’s part of being a big city.
