Grand Rapids Tooth Bonding | Inlays and Onlays

Serving Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, And Surrounding Areas Of Michigan

If you need any of your teeth filled because they’ve developed some decay, Dr. Mulder offers porcelain inlays and onlays. Both inlays and onlays are types of fillings, but done with porcelain rather than metal amalgam or white dental composite. Inlays are smaller, being within the tooth cusps, and onlays extend to the outer surfaces of the tooth, to repair more extensive decay.

Using CEREC

With the help of amazing CEREC technology, inlays and onlays can be crafted and placed on the same day. Porcelain is not a soft pliable substance, and is not packed into the cavity like white composite or amalgam. It’s a hard, glass-like substance and is milled by the CEREC machine to the exact specifications given by Dr. Mulder. It will fill the cavity and extend to the intact areas of the tooth in a blended way, so that it will be hard to tell where the inlay or onlay ends and where your tooth begins.

Both inlays and onlays are bonded to the tooth using the same bonding that’s used to affix porcelain veneers. They become part of the natural tooth and give a very strong chewing surface.
